SecurePass
FAQs

Question:

Why do I have to enter my super secret string all the time?

Answer:

Internally we call this the passphrase (or salt). In order to guarantee the safety of your data, we never ever store that passphrase anywhere, period! This means that whenever we need to make a call to get data, save data, edit data, etc... we need to ask for that passphrase. It's for your safety!

Question:

How secure is my data... really?

Answer:

Your data is as secure as a penny in a locked drawer, in a locked office, in the middle of ADX Florence. It's super secure! But in technical terms, we only store your encrypted data on our servers and your passphrase is never saved, stored, or even seen by us. In fact, the decryption and encryption methods do not need an internet connection, so you could login, disable WiFi, enter your passphrase and your data would be available. You would then need to reconnect to the internet though since you could not add any data or edit any data without making more calls to the internet. The whole "internet connection not required" process is not fully vetted though at this point, and so for now, things might break if you try the above. However, this is in the works.

Question:

Will you ever make it possible to fully work offline?

Answer:

Yes and no. The way it will work is you will need to first login and get fresh data (or have the remember me checked previously). This part requires an internet connection. After that, you can disconnect, and freely add and edit. Then when you are ready, select encrypt. Connect to the internet. Then select upload.

It's important to note that since we do not have any way to decrypt your data, we also cannot work out any overlaps in your data. So if you edit your passwords somewhere else before saving, your last saved data is all that will remain. All data entered elsewhere will be lost forever.

Question:

Will you ever have backups?

Answer:

Backups are indeed a feature we would like to offer in the future. That being said, it's a ways off, and requires a lot more overhead from our perspective in terms of hosting fees. We would like to keep this service free for as long as possible and this may not ever happen. However, if we do implement this, it may offer a way of remedying those instances noted above regarding loss of data when saving elsewhere.

Question:

How can I ask a question not in this list?
